Can my child earn a high school diploma?

Yes. Goodwin Learning Academy offers three graduation pathways so every learner has a meaningful goal to work toward. The Standard Academic Pathway covers state-required credits with modified assessments, accommodations, college prep options, and concurrent enrollment available, for students who can meet Arizona graduation requirements. The Life Skills Pathway focuses on functional academics, independence, and daily living skills for students whose goals are substantially different from grade-level academics. The Blended Pathway combines both, applied subject by subject based on each student's documented goals.

What a parent told us.

A family whose child is in our high school program, in their own words.

  • “I cannot say enough good things about GLA. Aidan has created a safe, nurturing environment for students who have previously been pushed aside. My son has grown tremendously in his academics and truly loves coming to school. He never wants to miss a day, which is a night-and-day difference from where we were before GLA.”

  • “I can't thank Aidan and Kristin enough for all they have done and created for my daughter. They designed a program tailored to meet her needs, saw her strengths, and lifted her up in the areas where she could grow. I have seen a tremendous change in her self-confidence and drive. GLA gave her exactly what she needed to succeed.”

Curriculum & assessment

Named tools, fitted to one learner.

Every student's journey begins with a diagnostic process, then instruction is built from a curriculum tailored to that student, not a fixed track everyone follows.

High School

A closer look

High school at Goodwin Learning Academy prepares students for post-secondary success through academics, life skills, and career readiness: credit-earning academic pathways with transition planning and career exploration built in, aligned with Arizona State Standards.

There are three ways to graduate, all three count, and all three pathways issue a high school diploma. The Standard Academic Pathway covers state-required credits with modified assessments, college prep options, and concurrent enrollment available. The Life Skills Pathway centers functional academics, independence, and daily living skills, a meaningful finish line for students whose progress isn't best measured in credits. And the Blended Pathway combines both, tailored subject by subject to what each student actually needs.

Career readiness runs alongside coursework: career assessments, job shadowing, internship opportunities, and resume and interview skills, plus independent-living instruction in financial literacy, health and wellness, transportation skills, and self-advocacy.

And graduation doesn't have to be a cliff. For students who benefit from it, Job Readiness & Life Skills Support continues that momentum, building the work-readiness and independent-living skills that carry into life after high school.

What curriculum do you use?

Every Goodwin Learning Academy student starts with a diagnostic process: IXL Diagnostics for current reading and math levels, plus DIBELS, PAST, and GLA Designed Dyslexia Screening Assessments when appropriate. From there we build the learning experience around the student, using Edgenuity, Unique Learning System, Everfi, and GLA-designed curriculum, all aligned with Arizona State Standards and reinforced with IXL and BrainPOP.

What options exist after high school for students with disabilities in Arizona?

Graduation doesn't have to be a cliff. For students who benefit from it, Goodwin Learning Academy's Job Readiness & Life Skills Support is built into the high school years: work-readiness coaching, life-skills instruction, and hands-on prep for what comes after graduation.
